Home..the place my soul belongs!

COFFEE-2

As I wipe the sleep out of my eyes and put on my woolly slippers & gown, a smile spreads across my face…one which I know will not easily be removed.

House hunting is stressful, to say the least. There were months when we were convinced we’d just have to settle for something within our budget, even if it was smaller and not as pretty as that which we’d dreamed of living in. But we didn’t. We kept dreaming and kept looking, right up until just over a month before our rent contract was to end.

When we found our home, we knew immediately that if they’d accept our cheeky offer, that this could potentially be exactly what we had dreamt up. A warm home, in a safe but small complex, enough rooms for friends to come and stay (and our now-to-be baby), a pool and a garden with a view 🙂

Needless to say, our offer was accepted, and after 2 months of putting pressure on our conveyancers, we finally took ownership at the beginning of August. And then began the fun part…renovating!!

We’d dreamed of an open-plan living area with wooden floors, neural colours and a natural flow onto the pool. My husband is amazing with visualising things and thus the prior 3-roomed space with a pink fireplace, soon began to transform before our eyes, as H project managed the building. It is truly incredible what a mere bashing down of a few internal walls, a coat of paint, new flooring and some creative inspiration here and there (see fireplace) can do to a home.

Hendrik played with so many ideas for a fireplace but nothing seemed right….until he came across a new range of laminate floors, the ‘Beach House’ range. He bought 3 boxes of different flooring, laid them out on the floor and then started drawing lines as to where to cut the planks at differing heights and how to mix up the colours. While it sounded like a great idea, we were not convinced…but a mixture of H’s creative mind & the AMAZING team that put it together for us (Designer Blinds & Floors) – the result is just beautiful. {PS: Would love to hear what you think??}

We are thrilled with our space and having now finished with the last few essentials – we are finally in a place where we can sit at our dining room table (or me on my yoga mat) with our stacking doors wipe open, and look out onto our pool and garden with the deepest sense of gratitude 🙂
