Do you even need a Vision for my life? And if so, why?

2

Just this last week I was running a Visioning exercise in a group coaching session, and this question came up once again…

So I thought I’d tackle this somewhat ambiguous question, once & for all.

Vision = The act or power of anticipating that which will or may come to be

This word is thrown around in the sporting world, business world and seems to pop up every time the word ‘success’ surfaces.

How does one go about getting a vision for your life??

To have a vision is to enter onto a level of certainty. It is to awaken your subconscious mind, which is in essence a goal-setting mechanism, and to align it with what you want for your life.

Simply put, to take dreams (even those that are yet to be acknowledged) and to declare that you want them. It’s to confess to yourself what YOU AT YOUR BEST looks like.

And the beauty in that is that by confessing what we want, we are far more likely to honour our ideas with action.

And this, my friend, is when we start to get flashes of insight. By admitting to ourselves what we want, the next step that we need to take is usually revealed.

How would I make this more real for myself?

3 easy steps:
  1. Brainstorm

The first thing you need to do is to brainstorm. Now this step scares a lot of people, and so I have compiled 5 questions to get you thinking along these lines. You can download them by clicking here!!

  1. Write it down

While answering the above questions would definitely have gotten you thinking. A next step is to write this out in a more structured, specific way.

The way I like to do this is by categorizing my life into the following areas: Relationships, Career, Body, Spirit, Bucket List, Giving back. Use the information you gathered above to specify what it is that you are wanting in each of these areas of your life

One way of doing this is to create a Vision Board (see mine in the download above) J

  1. Pull it into being

In order to fill your unconscious mind with this vision, you will need to put your vision board somewhere you can see it, regularly. This way, you are constantly reminding yourself with that which you want – without even consciously thinking about it.

This, along with, some active goal setting will help you to make these now-far-off ideas, a reality!

But…What if I fail??

While Vision boarding is scary, and I get that you may have been hurt in the past by verbalizing your dreams and them not being fulfilled, what you need to know is that…

Little happens without vision.

You need a vision for your life. Something you’re going to fall in love with, you know, the driving force behind why you get out of bed every morning.

My friend, while it may be a risk to start visioning, it is so much more than that… It is to choose to not accept anything less than you at your best!!!! It is to be absolutely true to your inner-self, to honour who God created you to be, and to then to go out and know that the doors will open when you’re embracing the path you were made for!!!

Ps: It’s not about overcoming failure….it’s about learning to fly!!
